When it comes to hurricanes and tropical storms, Floridians have learned first hand it pays to be prepared. To help you be better prepared, we have posted information on this site designed to help you lessen the impact of a major storm or hurricane. Hurricanes can cause severe damage. Before a hurricane hits, you should take steps to protect your property and lessen damages from hurricanes. The Department of Financial Services has a Natural Disaster guide (in English and Spanish) to help you prepare for disasters. It also has useful information on handling claims and obtaining help. Flooding is a major cause of damage after a storm and insured's can file a flood claim under the National Flood Insurance Program.
If you have a problem with a claim, you can file a request for assistance on-line with the Florida Department of Financial Services and, you can look up licensing information on insurance agents and adjusters. Our web site also has information for individuals wishing to be emergency adjusters.
The Department of Financial Services has complied a list of links that provide useful weather and disaster information. The Florida Division of Emergency Management tracks storms and provides information on the status of Florida shelters and evacuation routes. They also provide information for family preparedness during Hurricane Season and staff the State of Florida Emergency Operations Center.
