Most insurance agents are reputable
professionals who are well-trained in their areas of
expertise. When selecting an agent, choose one who is
licensed to sell insurance in Florida. Also, choose one with
whom you feel comfortable and who will answer your
questions.
Remember, an agent can represent more
than one insurance company. To verify whether an agent is
licensed, call the DFS Consumer Helpline toll-free at
1-800-342-2762.
Agents must take classes and pass certain
tests to become licensed. Some choose to take further
courses to obtain additional professional designations.
These designations include:
CEBS ........ Certified Employee Benefits Specialist
CFP .......... Certified Financial Planner
ChFC........ Chartered Financial Consultant
CIC .......... Certified Insurance Counselor
CLU ......... Chartered Life Underwriter
CPCU ...... Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter
LUTC ....... Life Underwriting Training Council Fellow
RHU......... Registered Health Underwriter
