Plans Review Section
Welcome The Plans Review Section reviews construction plans and other related documents of all structures proposed for construction by the State. This Section is also charged with the review of documents for construction and renovation of spaces leased by State agencies. The current law requires that state-leased properties being constructed, renovated, or altered will have a turnaround processing period of 10 working days after receipt by the Division of the State Fire Marshal. The plans for construction of any new, or renovation or alteration of any existing state-owned facility shall be reviewed by the Division and processed within a 30 calendar day period. During the fiscal year 1998/1999, the Plans Review Section reviewed and processed over 1000 sets of plans, many of them having to be reviewed more than once due to non-compliance with the Fire Prevention Codes on the first submittal. The Plans Review Section also conducts field inspections
during various phases of the project to insure that fire and life safety issues conform to the approved design. It is illegal for any construction, modification, renovation or alteration of state-owned or state-leased properties to begin without the plan review and approval of the Division of the State Fire Marshal.
