Note:   The Department of Education Statewide Course Numbering System uses the FFP prefix to indicate thoses courses within the Fire Science Curriculum. The first number indicates the level, either Freshman (1) or Sophomore (2), and the last three numbers indicate the course topic. Due to the variety of courses offered through out the state it should be noted that courses with the same last three numbers are the same course, contain the same course content and contact hours regardless of the first leveling number.

EXTINGUISHER SERIES


 

 

FIRE EXTINGUISHER TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION

FSFC 708 (40 contact hours, 0 college credits, class size: 12 minimum, 25 maximum)

Textbook: NFPA 10

Course Fee: $150.00 payable to Florida Department of Financial Services

Course curriculum is designed with two main objectives. The first objective is to prepare a student to obtain a license or permit for servicing, recharging, repairing, testing, inspecting and/or properly installing fire extinguishers. Secondly, students will also learn the responsibilities for oversight of fire equipment dealers and technicians, as enforced by firesafety inspectors and fire marshals (Statute 633.061). Students must bring long-sleeve cotton shirts to participate in practical exercises that illustrate these concepts.

NOTE:   Licensing / Permitting Test requires an additional application and fee. Exams will be administered on the last day of the class to students successfully completing the course. Testing is also available at the regional test sites

INSPECTING PRE-ENGINEERED SYSTEMS AND EXTINGUISHERS

FSFC 716 (16 contact hours, 0 college credits, class size: minimum 15, maximum 30)

Textbook: NFSFC Handouts

Course Fee: $45.00 payable to Florida Department of Financial Services(The course registration fee includes a lab fee)

In this two-day, 16-hour seminar firesafety inspectors will have the opportunity to update and increase their knowledge in a variety of areas that affect their daily duties. Topics to be covered include: UL 300: Before and after 1994; Grandfathering: "What it is and isn't"; Factory support of systems: The new playing field; Vendor relations; Matters of Law: Ch. 633 F.S. and Ch. 69A-21 F.A.C.; Simplifying systems calculations; and Manufacturers' maintenance recommendations.
