Note: The Department
of Education Statewide Course Numbering
System uses the FFP prefix to indicate
thoses courses within the Fire Science
Curriculum. The first number indicates
the level, either Freshman (1) or Sophomore
(2), and the last three numbers indicate
the course topic. Due to the variety
of courses offered through out the state
it should be noted that courses with
the same last three numbers are the
same course, contain the same course
content and contact hours regardless
of the first leveling number.

FIRE OPERATIONS IN THE URBAN INTERFACE

This course is designed to meet the
training needs for initial attack incident
commanders and company officer confronting
wildland fire that threatens life, property
and improvements. Units include: size-up,
initial strategy and action plan, structure
triage, tactics, action plan assessment,
public relations and follow-up, and
safety. In addition, this course is
designed to help you learn the principles
used in suppressing fire and/or protecting
structures in a wildland urban interface
area.
NOTE: Prerequisite:
I-220 or I-100/I-200 Forestry or Basic
ICS.

COMPUTERS
FOR THE FIRE SERVICE

credits, class size: 15 minimum, 30
maximum)
Textbook: None
Course Fee: $60.00 payable to Florida
Department of Financial Services.
This course covers the fundamentals
of computer hardware and software including
desktop components and peripherals,
general software applications (word
processing, spreadsheets, databases,
and presentation graphics), and operating
systems. It also includes use of internet
browsers and related applications. Particular
emphasis is palced upon using computers
to enhance fire service operations such
as training record keeping, apparatus
and equipment records, personnel functions,
preplans, inspection and investigation
reports, and hazardous material incidents.
Computer eqipment and software are
provided.

FLAMMABLE
LIQUID FIREFIGHTING
FSFC 902 (16 contact hours, 0 college
credits, class size: 15 minimum, 30
maximum)
Textbook: None
Course Fee: $360.00 payable to Florida
Department of Financial Services (The
course registration fee includes
a lab fee)
This course covers the extinguishment
of flammable and combustible liquids,
as well as pressurized gas fires. A
variety of extinguishment methods are
taught including foam, dry chemical,
water, and combination techniques. The
student is introduced to large and small
spill fires, up to 1,000 square feet.
Additional scenario components include
appreciable depth fires (floating petroleum)
gravity fires, paint locker fires, and
barrel rack fires. This physically demanding
course includes up to 12 different firefighting
evolutions with most of the course spent
on the training field. Students are
required to bring a complete set of
bunker gear, including Nomex hood.
