MARION COUNTY SCHOOL BOARD COURSE INFORMATION
FIREFIGHTER MINIMUM STANDARDS SKILLS REFRESHER (24 Hours)
This course is designed for firefighters whose certification is nearing expiration and must be re-tested on their individual skills to retain certification under Ch. 633.352 of the Florida Statutes. In this three-day course, the practical skills on which you were originally certified will be polished and refreshed prior to your re-test date.

FIREFIGHTER I & II (FIREFIGHTER MINIMUM STANDARDS) (480 Hours)
This Minimum Standards Certification Course for firefighters is a mentally,
physically, and emotionally challenging program that includes extensive
classroom and practical elements. The 480-hour course runs for twelve
consecutive weeks, meeting Monday-Friday, 7 A.M. - 5 P.M. at the Florida State Fire College campus, located on County Road 25A in northwest Marion County. All class sessions are presented regardless of weather conditions and no absences are permitted.

FIREFIGHTER II
(FIREFIGHTER MINIMUM STANDARDS) (240 Hours)
This Minimum Standards
Certification Course for certified Firefighter I’s is a mentally, physically,
and emotionally challenging program that includes extensive classroom and
practical elements. The 240-hour course runs for six consecutive weeks, meeting
Monday-Saturday, 7 A.M. - 5 P.M., 11/8-11/20 (first two weeks) Monday-Wednesday,
7 A.M. – 5 P.M., 11/22-24 (third week) and Monday-Friday, 7 A.M. – 5 P.M.,
11/29-12/17 for the final three weeks. All classes will be held at the Florida
State Fire College campus, located on County Road 25A in northwest Marion
County. All class sessions are presented regardless of weather conditions and no
absences are permitted.

APPARATUS SERIES
Apparatus Operations, Aerial Operations, and Fire Service Hydraulics courses are
now registered through the Marion County Community Technical Adult Education

FIRE SERVICE HYDRAULICS
FFP 1301 (40 contact hours, 3 college credits, class size: 15 minimum, 25 maximum)

NOTE: IFSTA "Pumping Apparatus
Driver/Operator Handbook" is used and approved at other training centers and is
acceptable for the State examination for Pump Operator for FFP 1301 and 1302.
The course curriculum covers relationship between flow and pressure and mathematical hydraulic formulas. Students must bring a simple calculator with square root function. Course includes pump theory, pump rating, and pressure and vacuum gauges.
NOTE: This course requires work to be done prior to and /or following attendance at the course.

APPARATUS OPERATIONS
FFP 1302 (40 contact hours, 3 college credits, class size: 15 minimum, 20 maximum)
Textbook: IFSTA Fire Department Pumping Apparatus
The curriculum covers the laws, rules and driving techniques for emergency vehicles, as well as a review of fire service hydraulics. Fireground evolutions and a driving course make up the practical part of the course. The evolution portion of the course includes the use of pre-connected lines, tandem pumping, drafting, relays and master streams. The student should have a basic understanding of fire stream hydraulics prior to entering this course. Students must bring gloves and proper attire for water pumping exercises.
NOTE: This course requires work to be done prior to and /or following attendance at the course.
(Prerequisite: FFP 2640 or consent of instructor) Upon successful completion of both FFP 2640 and FFP 1601, the student is eligible to sit for the State Pump Operator certification test at a regional testing site. Part of Pump Operator.
Students must bring gloves, hardhat and proper attire for water pumping and Aerial exercises.
AERIAL OPERATIONS
FSFC 703 (40 contact hours, 0 college credits, class size: 9 minimum, 12 maximum)
Textbook: IFSTA Fire Department Aerial Apparatus
The course curriculum can be designed around the requirements of the requesting fire department. Classroom lectures and practical exercises are conducted in the principles and uses of aerial and pumper apparatus, including the recognition of hazards which may be present during aerial operations. The curriculum also includes classroom lectures and exercises in the principles, uses and tactical and safe placement of platform apparatus. Exercises are also conducted in the use and principles of aerial and pumper apparatus, including the recognition of hazards which may be present during aerial operations.
NOTE: Students must bring gloves, hardhat and proper attire for water pumping and Aerial exercises. Students will be required to ascend and descend aerial ladders and aerial platforms.
