Dear Parents and Teachers,

Welcome to "The Florida State Fire College Kids Site - The Hot Spot."

Our purpose here is to teach our children fire safety, injury prevention  and about the fire service.  We present the material in an entertaining way so as to entice the kids further into the program.  In these pages they will learn about basic fire safety rules and why they are important.  They will also learn about the fire service and the roles that firefighters play in our modern communities.

Of course we have fire engines and fire trucks too.  All kids, big and small, love those big red machines that the firefighters ride.  We have pictures and descriptions of all kinds of fire trucks, not only of today's modern fire trucks, but antiques as well.  You just have to go to the "Firehouse" page to see them.

We try to tie in our lessons with history and facts that the children may have already learned in school thus reinforcing the importance of both those subjects and the material we are presenting.

We have optimized this site for both the Macintosh and PC operating systems, as well as a wide variety of fonts and font sizes. This should enable the font to be changed for better visibility for younger children and those with limited sight impairment without destroying the layout of the various site pages.

The site is also enhanced with Java, Javascript and QuickTime.  To get the full experience of "The Florida State Fire College Kids Site - The Hot Spot", i.e. the movies, sound and music, it is recommended that you use Netscape Navigator v3.01 or later, or MS Internet Explorer v4 or later.  In addition, you will need the QuickTime Plug-in for your operating system.  This may be downloaded free from :

www.quicktime.apple.com and should be placed in your browser plug-in directory (folder).

If you use MS Internet Explorer you may also have to download and install the runtime version of Java for your operating system.  Users of Netscape do not have to do this because the basic Java classes are part of the Netscape browser software.

These additions are not exclusively for the use of this site.  You will find your total net experience rewarded because many other educational and informational sites also use these enhancements.

We will strive to keep the site both interactive and current.

After your child's visit please ask him or her about the things that they have seen and their importance both at school and around the home.  This will stress the importance of this learning experience.  By showing your active concern and support, we can be sure to raise fire safety and life safety awareness in our children and ensure that our kids know the right thing to do in moments of danger and uncertainty and most of all how to prevent accidents from happening.

Please enjoy your visit with us and by all means come back often.  We look forward to hearing from you.  Just click on the E-mail address found at the bottom of each page.

Yours for a safer world for our children,

Webmaster,
Florida State Fire College Kids Site
