Department Revokes Indian Rocks Man’s Insurance License

CONTACT: Justin Glover

INDIAN ROCKS – An Indian Rocks man has lost his license to sell insurance after failing to respond to charges that he misrepresented a product to an elderly person and sold another client a less advantageous and unnecessary replacement policy.

The Department of Financial Services has revoked the insurance license of James Michael Belliveau of 310 10th Ave. Belliveau, 44, was charged in December with misrepresenting a home health care service contract as health insurance.

Department investigators with the Bureau of Agent and Agency Investigation also allege Belliveau persuaded another consumer to buy a long-term care policy that was not in her best interest. Belliveau allegedly told his client that the company that held her existing policy was going to file for bankruptcy, creating the false perception that the client needed to switch policies in order to maintain coverage. The replacement policy that Belliveau sold his client was a lesser policy that had a higher premium and no lifetime benefit.

Belliveau has been licensed as a health agent since 1993. His license is revoked for a period of two years, after which he may reapply.
