OCALA, Fla. – This morning, CFO and State Fire Marshal Jeff Atwater hosted the 24th annual Fallen Firefighter Memorial ceremony at the Florida State Fire College in Ocala. Fire service professional from across the state, as well as family members and friends of firefighters who have lost a loved one in the line of duty, paid tribute to two Florida firefighters who paid the ultimate price in service to others.

“We meet today, as we do each year, to honor those who gave the last full measure of devotion in service to their neighbors, and to express to their families that we shall never forget them or their selfless sacrifice,” said CFO Atwater. “Let us always remember the noble work of a firefighter, and work to carry forward their traditions and their reputations.”

The two Florida firefighters honored today were:

Carl A.R. Lommler – Carl Lommler was the first paid fire chief for the Longwood Fire Department. He also served as a reserve law enforcement officer for the Longwood Police Department, and his dedication to serving his fellow Floridians as an honorable first responder was known by all who knew Carl.

Frank R. Vigh – Frank Vigh was an engineer for the Orange County Fire Department. Frank dedicated his life to the service of others, and he gave 12 years to the fire service. Frank was a generational firefighter whose father served for nearly 30 years with the South Bend Indiana Fire Department.

The Fallen Firefighter Memorial ceremony is hosted annually during the month of October. The memorial is located on the site of the Florida State Fire College campus, which is the fire education facility owned and operated by the state of Florida, under the direction of the Chief Financial Officer and State Fire Marshal.
