CFO Jeff Atwater Provides Tips to Protect Seniors from Scams
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Florida Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater’s Department of Financial Services, in partnership with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, is hosting free workshops for seniors, their families and caregivers this week in Jacksonville. The ‘Be Scam Smart’ workshops will teach attendees how to recognize a financial scam, how scams work and steps they can take to protect themselves.
The workshops are part of CFO Atwater’s Operation S.A.F.E. (Stop Adult Financial Exploitation) initiative, which focuses on financial frauds and scams such as the IRS, fake lottery and romance scams. The workshops also teach attendees the tactics scam artists use to work on the psyche to convince seniors to take a chance on something that is too good to be true.
